The Simi Valley Game and the Arizona State at UCLA Game

Simi Valley Pioneers (0-5)
at
Newbury Park Panthers (3-2)

Can you say Trap Game?

We worked hard this week on keeping our team focused at the task at hand versus a Simi Valley team that was better than their 0-5 record would indicate to the casual 15 year old observer. Also, after next week's bye, we would face one of our two cross-town rivals, Westlake H.S.

Overall, we seemed to have prepared well for the Pioneers.

I was wrong.

It was a beautiful day for
American football

Being October, it was also the start
of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Captains Out
#62 Jake Radwan, #70 Matt Sandwall,
#26 Cameron Brown and #9 Ruben Soria

Here come the Panthers yet again

QB/CB Ruben Soria
would have another great day

He would be 13 for 21 passing for 239 yards, two TDs and no interceptions. Ruben would also rush for 69 yards on 17 carries, while scoring a TD and a Two-Point conversion.

Simi Valley hurt us with BIG plays

The Pioneers would have scoring runs of 71, 82 and 85 yards.

Ruben Soria's 96 yard interception
return for a Pic-Six!!!

One of Ian Albaeck's ten receptions
good for 194 yards and two TDs

TJ Davis chipped in 44 yards rushing

At the Half, we held on to a slim 20-14 lead.

Simi Valley's RB #2 was TOUGH!

Good Line Surge

Ruben Soria is elusive

This key catch at the five yard line
was called back due to holding

Instead of First and Goal at the five with a 28-21 lead, we would eventually be forced to punt from the 50 yard line.

It was a good and obvious call by the way.

The Cheerleaders were in our corner

So all that we needed, with less than three minutes left in the game, was a good punt and some defense.

Instead, we got a bad punt snap that rolled past our punter for a 21 yard loss.

Fourth Down and One

The Pioneers would score on this play to cut our lead to 28-27 with 42.7 seconds left in the game.

They went for the win and scored a two-point conversion to win their first game of the season 29-28.

What to say after a frustrating loss?

Ian Albaeck earned the Game Hammer

Seeing Jacob on the field

. . . a LOT!

Mary was there too!

These three always put a smile on my face

Our Varsity improve to 5-1 with its 56-21 win over Simi Valley.

On Saturday, Mike and I gladly accepted our longtime friend, Michael D'Antuono's invitation to join him at the Rose Bowl for . . .

Arizona State Sun Devils
(2-2, 0-1 Pac-12)
vs.
7th Ranked UCLA Bruins
(4-0, 1-0 PAC-12)

luxury box/seating area

Can you say WOW!

With Michael before the game

Did I ever tell you about the time at the U of W that Michael wrestled two-time Olympic Silver medalist Rick Sanders of Portland State?

If not, remind me. It's a GREAT story!

Game, USC vs. Wisconsin

It was the first Rose Bowl Game that I ever attended and it was one for the ages as USC won the game 42-37 and finished as undefeated Natiuonal Champions.

Uh-oh, Arizona State came to play

Our seats were FANTASTIC!

A panoramic view from our seats

The Rose Bowl is an incredible setting
for a college football game

Arizona State upset UCLA 38-23 and staunch UCLA fan Cheech Marin died a thousand "F-ing" deaths sitting right behind us.

At least I thought it was Cheech Marin.

I could be wrong.

Thanks again Michael for a great afternoon of college football!

Reading Is FUNdamental

Just can't get enough of this
Sicilian detective mysteries

These are all easy two day reads, perfect for a warm SoCal weekend at the house.

Hard Core Justice

Again, thank you to Mike D'Antuono for tipping me off to the always interesting world of Jack Reacher novels a few years ago.
