Bayeux, France

On my recent trip to Normandy, I stayed one night in the charming city of Bayeux.

Bayeux is only six miles inland from the D-Day beaches and was the first major city to be captured by the Allies. The town was not bombed by the Allies because a local chaplain had gotten word out to Allied Intelligence in London that Bayeux was not a German stronghold and that it was of no strategic importance.

Through my favorite European accommodations website, venere.com, I was able to find a great spot for the night, the Hôtel Tardif.

This hotel is a six room manor house

One of the most beautiful Gothic cathedrals that I have seen in all of Europe, it was only about 70 yards from the Hôtel Tardif.

All from the same Legendre family I am assuming. What a tragedy for this Bayeux family to have three of there brothers, fathers, husbands and/or sons all gone in a 12 month span.

The famous Bayeux Tapestry Museum

This famous tapestry, which chronicles William the Conqueror's victory at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, was very interesting and a must see when you come to Normandy.

No pictures allowed in the museum and, for once, I honored their request.
