Three Weeks of Catching Up World Wide

It has been a few weeks since I last posted, so here goes. . .

HUENEME VIKING
FROSH BASEBALL

Since we last posted, the Vikings opened Pacific View League play with two games against the Camarillo Scorpions, got rained out of two games versus the Channel Islands Raiders and took on the Pacifica Tritons yesterday.

Mike's team continues to show signs of improvement and has their moments but they still don't have a win to show for their efforts.

NEWS FROM EuroBall

2011 Italian Football League

The Catania Elephants, brandishing a new logo, started their 2011 season two weekends ago. Their opening game was a rematch of the 2010 IFL Super Bowl as the Elephants (8-2 in 2010) traveled to Parma (9-1 in 2010) to take on the Panthers who won said Super Bowl 56-26.

The Elephants came out fired up and won their season opener in a typical IFL defensive battle, 54-51.

Up next for the 1-0 Catania squad was another road trip, this time to Italy's Adriatic Sea coast for a contest with the 0-0 Ancona Dolphins. A combination of swelled heads, injuries and a very stout Ancona effort from the opening kickoff made for a LONG afternoon for our favorite Sicilians. The final gun sounded with the Dolphins (1-0) outlasting the Elephants (1-1)
60-41.

The Hässleholm Hurricanes are hard at work preparing for the start of their season. This coming Saturday the 'Canes will cross the Øresund for a scrimmage with Denmark's Kronborg Knights coached by former Hurricane coach Lonnie Hursey.

Last year Ryan, Laurie and I took the ferry to Helsingør, Denmark to watch the Knights play a home game. They lost that day but looked very good. Saturday should be a stern test for the revitalized Hurricanes.

All the gear that Ventura County high school coaches donated to the Hurricanes arrived. Here, Hurricane President Shawn Cordeiro's oldest son William, dons the new practice look of the Hässleholm Hurricanes/Bulldogs.

NINETEEN weeks to play ten games . . . only in Sweden.

Last year's Division I Södra Champion Kristianstad C4 Lions, 8-0 in the regular season, folded as a team a few weeks ago thus creating BYES in the schedule. This leads me to believe that there may be a revision or two in store for the schedule above.

Good luck to both teams in 2011!!!
